Air plants get their name not because they only need air to survive but because they don't need to be potted in soil. They are epiphytic, meaning they grow on other plants without harming them. The Ionantha Guatemala is the most common variety of air plant, these have a brilliant red and green colour. These would be great sat on top of stones or sand in an open terrarium!

Environment: Tropical

Light: Bright indirect light. They do need plenty of light but too much direct light will burn them.

Water: Once a month, soak your air plants in luke warm water for a couple of hours then shake off excess water and dry upside down on a towel in warm sun. Drying them quickly is important so they don't rot. Other than this, give them a good misting a couple of times a week.
